Summer of the Soda Fountain Girls was released April 4th, 2011.

Summer of the Soda Fountain Girls is the debut full-length album from Blue Bottle Collection. The summer-themed album was recorded in NYC at Yellow Sound Lab, produced by Michael Croiter. Joining Daniel Zaitchik on the 14-track album are Carey Anderson (voice), Whitney Bashor (voice), Jeremy Bass (guitar), Michael Croiter (percussion/guitars), Jody Flader (voice), Rob Jost (bass/french horn), Kate Mollica (voilin), Lauren Riley Rigby (cello), Chris Sullivan (beatbox/percussion), Nathan Tysen (voice/guitar/harmonica) and Emily Walton (voice.)

Since their formation in 2009, Blue Bottle Collection has played various NYC venues including Joe’s Pub, The Canal Room, The Bitter End, and Ars Nova. Zaitchik describes their layered, evocative sound as “madrigal soul.”  The group has been compared to artists ranging from The Mamas & The Papas to Sufjan Stevens, The Beach Boys to Regina Spektor.

Summer of the Soda Fountain Girls is a road trip album, a summer escape,” Zaitchik says. “It begins with a gust of warm wind and moves us through June, July, and August, stopping along the way for milkshakes, music-making, swimming, and stargazing.  The album is equal parts celebration and meditation.  It’s about renewal, revival, release, and soaking in some Vitamin D.”

summer (young & golden)

music & lyrics by daniel zaitchik

we had a good time, didn't we?

the sun was sublime, wasn't she?

and you were even more golden

and i was even more free

i'm not ready for the fall

i'm not ready for the school year

i don't fit in there at all

i think you and i belong here

in summer

we hardly spent a moment in the shade

and grew a taste for powdered lemonade

and by july we were so golden

and by july i knew i'd like to stay

now i'm not ready for the fall

i'm not ready for the school year

i don't fit in there at all

i think you and i belong here

in summer

i've never written a letter

my spelling's not that good

the telephone's not much better

i feel all misunderstood

i've never written a letter

but maybe i could try

if we write each other letters

maybe time will fly by

now if i write you in the fall

if i write you in the winter too

if i write you in the spring

will it bring me back to you

next summer?

don't grow old

we are young and golden

we're still young, still unsung

but we are golden

don't grow old

we are young and golden

we're still young, still unsung

but we are golden

(live in this

when it's cold

don't grow old on me

don't grow old

don't grow old on me

don't go)
